Recognition Checklist: What to Prepare Ahead of Time

Employees are more concerned with the purpose and their contribution to shared goals today than pay. Employees seek organizations that align with their values and provide growth opportunities. Here are some things to consider when elevating culture through recognition:

Temperature Check: Culture and Employee Sentiment

  • Define the purpose of the work employees do that connects with business objectives. More employees quit due to a lack of value alignment than they did 10 years ago.
  • What is your culture? Can you identify specific actions that support your overall mission? Can your employees name what it is the company provides? Connect business objectives to human values. The customer, the employee, partners, and leadership should be able to clearly outline the value of services, and the ‘why.’
  • Understand what employees are working on, ensure they are aware, and agree with why and where their contributions create value for the future.

Define Qualitative and Quantitative Goals for the Program

  • Again look at current culture and define what the ultimate vision of a thriving culture looks like for your business.
  • Define actionable behaviors that support the objectives of building an inspiring, thriving, and productive workplace.
  • Tie these behaviors to frequent, genuine recognition to ultimately reinforce and fuel culture.

Brand Your Program

  • Tell a story
  • The best marketing, loyalty, and sales programs today focus on not only the how, but also the why. The core of winning business lies in deeply understanding the human need to belong and thrive. This applies to every touch point of the business: from product conception to messaging, delivery, sales conversation, customer experience, retention, and growth. Planning, nurturing, and maintaining relationships throughout every interaction of the process is key to winning repeat business as well as retaining valuable talent along the way.

Materials to Prepare

Create a brand identity around the program that captures company values and lets employees know they are valued and appreciated. Using brand colors or a new style guide designed specifically for the program, put together a kit of collateral that can be used program-wide.

  • Program and company style guide
  • eCards for birthdays, anniversaries, and welcome messages
  • Program announcement banners
  • Badge designs
